Matanzas

Matanzas was once called the Athens of Cuba because of the many intellectuals, artists and musicians who settled there. The province of the same name stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the north to the Caribbean coast in southern Cuba. Tourist highlights in the province are Varadero in the north, Playa Larga and Playa Giron in the south as well as the Natural Park with the Zapata swamps.
